Work on the development of the script with this class continues apace. Here, we are sharing some of the trigger questions that were posed to students to further refine their depiction of the characters they are acting:
Questions for the actors
Fire fighting scene
- Whose house is it?
- Why are you fighting the fire?
- How are you related to the victim?
- How are you feeling when you are fighting the fire?
- Which part of the house is burning?
- How big is the fire?
- How dangerous is it fighting the fire?
Note: fight fire for 2 seconds. Someone shouting for help. One Chinese and one Malay volunteer to go in and save her. Stop, think and respond. What is the danger of trying to rescue the victim?
Chaos
- What is happening/ or happened?
- Who are these two rioters?
- Why are you after each other’s life?
- Is the other rioter injured?
- The two women: Why are you looking for your loved ones?
- Where did they go?
- What did they do?
- How are you feeling?
Chinese saving Malay from gangsters
- What did the Malay do to infuriate the gangsters?
- Who are the gangsters?
- Why are they angry with the Malay?
- What do they intend to do to him? Kill or injured him?
- Is the Malay afraid of the gangsters?
- How is he feeling?
- Is he always on the look-out for them?
- Who is the Chinese?
- Why did he save the Malay?
- How are they related?
- Why wasn’t he afraid of offending the gangsters?
- Where were the gangsters heading to when they saw the Malay?
- Where was the Malay going before meeting the gangsters?
Xiao Fen & Grandma in scene 2
- What kind of relationship do XF & GM share?
- How are they feeling about the contest? Both of them confident and feeling good?
- Why is XF so happy?
- How is XF feeling when she speaks those words to her GM (after radio announcement).
- How is GM feeling?
XF & GM in scene 3
- What is XF’s feeling when she first appeared on stage? Why?
- How is GM feeling when she first appeared on stage?
- After hearing GM’s voice, how did she feel?
- After spotting XF, how did she feel?
Coffee shop scene
- With the two gang leaders, are they rivals?
- How come they can sit together in the coffee shop without fighting at first?
- Why is leader 1 unhappy?
- Did he really wait for a long time for his coffee?
- How do you show that?
- Why did leader 2 provoke him?
- Was it an excuse to fight with him?
- Coffee shop owner: Do you know that they are gang leaders?
- How come you dare to talk to him like that?
- How busy were you? Do you have any assistants?
- How come no coffee?
- Do you dare to offend a gang leader?
Classroom
- Teacher: What have you been sharing with the students?
- What kind of information?
- Student 1, 2 & 3: Why ask that question? Are you being inquisitive/ bored/ excited?
- What are you thinking of when you ask those questions?
