Graduated from LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts with a Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance), Yeo Bee Loon is currently a Dance Instructor, Performer cum Choreographer. She was awarded the Georgette Chen Arts Scholarship from the National Arts Council during her studies in LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts. She had also represented her school to perform in the Federal Academy of Ballet in Kuala Lumpur. Her portfolio includes being a dancer together with Odyssey Dance Theatre, Frontier Danceland and an overseas stint in India together with Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society. She was also involved in the choreography for National Day Parade 2004 and 2007, Chingay Parade 2004 and 2008 under the dance items for Singapore Soka Association. Currently, she is teaching dance in primary & secondary schools, hoping to bring her passion to greater heights.

With the advice of Mr Chio Kah Leong our teacher in charge of AVA, we’ve identified a list of Assistant Stage Managers who will be working with the professional stage managers brought into this project by ODP.

I’ve consolidated a very simple Programme Outline here, so that we have an overview of the order of events, in particular with the order of performance items in the fringe festivals.

Please write to me to correct any mistakes spotted, as the preparations progress. I’ll also be creating a Programme Notes Page, where we can all upload the programme notes for our individual items etc. This is already in some ways served by the individual pages dedicated to each of the art forms, however, some directors and artists have already started giving me more detailed write-ups of their items and I felt it would be better to reflect that kind of detailed thinking somewhere on this site as well.

首次到宏茂桥狮子乐龄之友协会，我的最初印象它只不过是一个慈善团体，一个提供乐龄人士消遣的场所。可是它逐渐地改变了我的想法。它不仅为乐龄人士提供物质上的需要，也给了他们在人生最后一段路程中所需要的东西，那就是关爱。
当他们聚在一起的时候，大家都会彼此嘘寒问暖。这不只填满了心灵中的空虚，也让生活有了色彩。生活对他们来说不会再是那么单调、乏味。有了新的生活目标和执著，乐龄人士会开心地走完生命中最后的里程碑。

2008年4月17日我们到 Ling Kwang Youth Centre 去采访中心的总干事 Mr Chang Chian Hui 。

听Mr Chang说，中心设立的目的是为了帮助那些四处闲荡的青少年，让他们放学后有地方可去，才不会交上坏朋友。

我觉得 Mr Chang的这分工作十分有意义，帮助青少年，引导他们走上正路。身为中心的总干事，Mr Chang 看着中心从八年前开始到现在，经过了许多风风雨雨。

所谓：‘助人为快乐之本’，所以 Mr Chang 没有埋怨，反而觉得自己收获很多。虽然开始非常艰难，资金也不是很多，他们还是熬到了现在。他们这种努力不懈与坚持到底的精神很值得我们学习。

从这次的访问中，我发觉自己的访问技巧进步了。我不再过于依赖写满问题的笔记，而是能随机应变。如果我依赖笔记，便无法听进采访者所说的话，也就无法及时想出新的问题。

We spent quite some time at Ling Kwang Youth Centre these past few weeks. Since the last time when we interviewed the volunteers, we made another two trips there. We interviewed two girls and one of the members of the staff on our second visit there. The girls were both students who regularly go to the Centre for tuition and to use the computers.

The interviews were all quite fun. Firstly, we interviewed Joel, a staff member. As he is the Head of Pastoral Care there, he recounted a few interesting occurrences that happened there in the past. We were also able to learn a lot about the profile of students who go to the Centre. It was an interesting experience and had a relaxing atmosphere. When the interview ended about a half hour later, we started our second interview.

This time, we interviewed one of the girls. She was the older of the two and was able to tell us some of the many interesting activities held by the centre that we had not heard of before that. It was not a long interview though, as she had to rush off. It was then that we held our last interview for the day. Our third interviewee was a primary school student. She was very talkative and animated, thus making the interview with her rather enjoyable. She gave us a short tour around the centre and the rest of the interview was held outdoors.

Our last interview at the Centre, about a week after the previous one, was with Mr Chang Chian Hui, the director of the Centre. Being the director, his interview told us more about the Centre than the previous interviews. We were a lot more knowledgeable about the Centre by the end of our interview with him.

Overall, our trips to Ling Kwang Youth Centre have all been very informative and I feel that it is indeed a very good place for youths to go to.

Ng Tian Hui graduated from the University of Birmingham, UK in 2001 where he studied Composition with Vic Hoyland and Jonty Harrison, and Conducting with Andrew Constantine.

He led the University Chamber Choir, Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia, the Conductors’ Vocal Ensemble as conductor and as music director for a production of Stravinsky’s Opera The Rake’s Progress in the 2001 Birmingham University Summer Festival of Music. Moreover, Tian Hui was the music director for the Keele University Concert Band from 1999 to 2001.

Since his return to Singapore, Tian Hui has sung with the leading choirs in Singapore, including the Singapore Youth Choir, the Singers and The Philharmonic Chamber Choir among many other groups. His 2007 rendition of Grieg’s Fire Salme at the Esplanade Recital Studio, was described by the national paper, the Straits Times as a ‘fine Performance, exuding warmth and Nordic largesse’.

During his National Service, he served in the Singapore Armed Forces Music and Drama Company as an arranger and conductor for the choir. In 2002, he founded the group, Chamber of Sounds to promote chamber music and co-founded the group “Magnetic Band” to promote contemporary music in Singapore in 2003. More recently, he has led the Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Singapore, in a collaboration with the Singapore Art Museum celebrating art and music from the 20th century, while his vocal quartet Curious Attacks has been repeatedly invited to perform at the Esplanade, Singapore’s national arts venue.

Tian Hui’s compositional activities embrace collaborative work with artists from diverse artistic disciplines and arrangement work. These interdisciplinary explorations include work with digital animation artist Yang Tien for an exhibition at EpSite@Wheelock, Singapore; movie soundtracks including two award-winning films, Crammed (2004), and Jia Fu (2005) by Ellery Ngiam; music for theatre and dance with Apsara Asia and other Singaporean companies. Notable arrangements include South-East Asian regional folksongs and popular music for Cantonese Pop Star William So.

In recognition for his work in music education, Tian Hui was awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award in 2005 for his contribution towards the development of the arts in the school. In 2006, he was conferred the Associate of Teachers Network Singapore for his contributions to the music teaching community. 2006 also saw him leading a team that won the Silver Award at the National Arts Education Awards.

Ideas for NOMAD 2008 Souvenirs

The Art Club started working on souvenirs and other products for sale during NOMAD itself. Judging from the popularity of T-Shirts the last time in 2005, we will be embarking on some T-Shirt Designing over the next few weeks, in time for product sales on fringe festival events where permissible and definitely for the Finale from 3rd to 5th July. Any feedback or suggestions about possible souvenirs is warmly welcome.

Artworks at Craft & Technology Junior Show

Sec 2 FTs might be particularly interested in this. Although the Junior Show was not explicitly linked to NOMAD 2008, the art works produced by our Secondary 2 IAP Art Students will be featured in various different ways in the festival itself.
