Musical Film Screening in the Style of Singapore in the 1960s

Synopsis: Presented by the AMKSS Chinese Reading Club, this event recreates the movie experience of the 1960s with an open air screening of a film from the era. Come along with your own stools and chairs, enjoy the movie in the midst of tea and traditional kachang putih sellers.

Synopsis: With “1964″ as this year’s theme, the Festival Finale culminates with 3 nights of performances featuring student works which are site-specific, inter-disciplinary and multi-sensory.Student works from the realms of dance, drama, music, visual arts, movies etc explore the tumultuous year before the founding of present day Singapore.

The works explore the many forces that have shaped modern Singapore in one of the most colourful eras in our history, together with exhibitions relating to life in the 1960s and Singapore premieres of commissioned works from composers and film-makers.Come join us as we continue to stretch the limits of school based arts at “1964″, a 2008 AMKSS NOMAD production.

Triple Bill: Status Unclear (Modern Dance), Untitled (Malay Dance) & Night Market (Play)

Synopses: :

(Status Unclear): “He was born in 1964. How old is he? Is he married? Is he a good father? Does he give clear instructions to his kids? Does he listen to the voice of his kids? Who is HE?”

This dance by the AMKSS Dance Club , involving the contemporary dance group, features the choreography of Jesper Tan, with digital art work created by the Secondary Three Normal (Technical) students in the Digital Art Elective Module in 2008 under the guidance of Visual Artist Nurhidayah.

(Night Market): The play “The Night Bazaar” presented here by the AMKSS Drama Club offers a glimpse into the private lives of street hawkers who make their living, and find meaning in their lives in the common arena of the Night Bazaar. Directed by Amelia George, in association with ACT3 Drama Academy, come lose yourself in this night of dreams and nostalgia. Admission Free.

CLAP! presents 1964 – An AMKSS NOMAD Production

Time: 1930 – 2100h (Art Exhibitions begin at 1800h)

Venue: Ang Mo Kio Central, K-Box Plaza (Opposite Banquet)

Admission: Free

Synopsis: This event features performances by the award winning Ang Mo Kio Secondary School Band and Choir with the Teck Ghee Community Club Line Dancers, as well as the Ang Mo Kio Community Centre’s Recreational Choral Singing Group. Come listen to an evening of music from the swinging sixties, complete with movements and music from the birth of the band scene in Singapore. Admission Free. This event is proudly sponsored by the Central Singapore Community Development Council as part of its CLAP! Series.
