There were many students who were not appropriately acknowledged for their involvement in NOMAD 2008. This is the first of the different student groups I will be listing in the next few days in acknowledgement of their contribution.

The following students from the Cheerleading Club contributed to the mammoth task of making up some 400+ student performers for this year’s NOMAD:

A theatre enthusiast, Juraidah feels blessed for the various exposure in the theatre industry for the past 7 years, especially in wardrobe, production and stage management. Most recently, she was a Production Co-ordinator for The Necessary Stage’s M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2008: Art & History.
Her stage management experience includes Sing’theatre’s Jacques Brel is alive and well and living in Paris (2008), No Regrets, A Tribute to Edith Piaf (2007), LASALLE College of the Arts’ Macbeth (2007), Singapore Repertory Theatre Young Company’s Down The White Road (2001) and W!ld Rice’s Happy Endings: Asian Boys Volume III (2007), Second Link (Singapore Theatre Festival 2006 & Kuala Lumpur), The Magic Fundoshi (2006), Boeing-Boeing (2005), The Visit of The Tai Tai (2004), and Animal Farm, which was part of 2004’s New Zealand International Arts Festival.

Juraidah was also a Production Co-ordinator with W!ld Rice from 2004 – 2006.

Elnie S Mashari graduated from the Queensland University of Technology. She
is a prolific theatre practitioner for the last 12 years.

Elnie has acted in both English and Malay productions. In 2007, she toured
in China and The Darwin Festival, as part of Theatre Practice’s ensemble
cast Play Play. In  2004/2005, she is one of TNS actor-facilitator for a
Forum Theatre Workshop in India and with the theatre practitioners in Banda
Aceh as part of the reconstructing programme.

As a Production/Stage Manager, Elnie has involved in the last few Singapore
Arts Festivals, Wildrice’s Singapore Theatre Festival as well as Touring
Productions. Her recent projects were Impenjarament, Mobile, JBJ,
Fundamentally Happy (KL), Blithe Spirit and Off Centre.  In 2007, she
stage-managed the successfully Marina Countdown at the Esplanade. Currently,
she is producing Panggung ARTS debut production Ma’Ma Yong – About Nothing
Much To Do at the Playden, Arts House.

With the advice of Mr Chio Kah Leong our teacher in charge of AVA, we’ve identified a list of Assistant Stage Managers who will be working with the professional stage managers brought into this project by ODP.

In keeping with tradition, we try to involve students in every aspect of the production of NOMAD.

Here are two examples of poster designs that were chosen by the Art Director, Ng Siew Kuan, together with Creative Director, Ng Tian Hui, as posters containing design elements that we felt best met the publicity requirements of the festival

This announcement is a follow up announcement to the NOMAD audition call for all Secondary Three students (Express, Normal Academic and Normal Tech) that was conducted on the 4 March 2008 (Tuesday) from 2.30pm to 4pm at the Dance room (4th level)

As mentioned earlier, we are looking for three categories of talents:

i) Dancers: requirement: To prepare ONE minute solo and will have learn
a set routine on the spot. Attire: PE attire (Track pants for ladies is
allowed)
ii) Actors: requirement: to prepare ONE minute of Dramatized reading.
Piece selected can be from genre of poems or plays. Attire: school uniform.
iii) Production crew. Commitment. (attire: school uniform)

Students are reminded that they have to be COMMITTED to the entire
NOMAD production from the end of May till the end of the production on the 5th of July.

At the end of the audition, some 20 odd students were seen by our chief Choreographer Gani Abdul Karim, and were given pointers on things that they can work on to improve their various proposed performances.

Students are expected to continue working on the pointers they were given, and selected students will be given notice to come in for a second round of auditions after the mid year examinations, before the intensive preparations leading up to the NOMAD 2008 Festival Finale on the 4th and 5th of July 2008.
